"If I hadn't left I would probably have 2 kids" 2014

If I hadn't left I would probably have 2 kids was inspired by the strange experience of dreaming in English for the very first time. I consider that night, when the English language entered my unconscious mind, my milestone for becoming bilingual. The principle of linguistic relativity suggests that thought is a consequence of language. If that is true, how do shifts in language immigrants experience as they acquire the common tongue of their new home and gradually lose their native tongue alter the way they think?

These paintings are portraits of an immigrant from Mexico and are based on data gathered from the language experiment, completed in Spanish and English.

I developed a complex system based on mathematics that I strictly followed to represent the data. Each vertical lenght is directly proportional to its corresponding reaction time. Furthermore, these vertical rectangles are colour coded with five predetermined colours based on number theory principles.
