Conversation with Nature was influenced by ongoing environmental concerns about humanity constantly claiming and taking away more and more of animals’, especially birds’, natural habitats. One of the ways we deal with this issue is through reconstructing these habitats. In a way, this makes us (humans) superior. We observe, study, and are able to reconstruct natural habitats for animals. This gives us power and control over other species. At the same time, we are also vulnerable. We have no power over nature. We cannot control earthquakes, or the weather, for instance. We are vulnerable; and we struggle for power. Furthermore, experience and process are major components of my piece. Through the process of this work, I am observing and studying birds, physically reconstructing their habitat and actually experiencing what it feels like to sit in a nest.
